Since July of 1984, the Humane Society of Hamilton County has been providing a second chance for unwanted pets. Serving Hamilton County, HSHC accepts stray and unwanted pets from Fishers, Carmel, Noblesville, Westfield and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department. Cicero and Sheridan have made arrangements for us to accept stray dogs from their police officers only.

The HSHC believes every adoptable animal in our care deserves a chance to find a home. We do not impose time limits nor do we euthanize healthy, adoptable animals to make space in our shelter. The only way we can do this is through aggressive adoption and out placement programs including collaborations with local rescues and area shelters as well as local boarding facilities.

By definition, we are considered a “low kill” shelter. The HSHC euthanizes only animals who are deemed ‘unadoptable’ based on their temperament and who we feel cannot be safely rehabilitated utilizing the resources available to us. The HSHC puts forth every effort to save even the most seriously injured and ill animals including those with hit by car injuries, heartworm disease, Parvo, upper respiratory, victims of abuse or neglect and more. Our shelter does not discriminate based on age, breed or disability.

We are truly a homeless animal’s best chance for a second chance.
